What do you need to bring to college? You should try going to school prepared rather than calling your parents each week for items that you forgot. If you go to school far away, this is important.
If you are enrolled in courses and holding down a job, be realistic when setting your goals. Do not schedule a class that will be challenging for you early in the day if you have a problem waking up in the morning. Schedule your classes to fit into how your brain works throughout the day.
If you are having trouble figuring out strategies for academic success, see if your college has a study skills course. Studying for college is much different than high school, which might impact your grades. A study skills course will assist you in learning how to study for your college courses.
Memorize your schedule, and know the location of your classes before school begins. Try and figure out how long it’ll take for you to get to each class, and use that to plan accordingly. In addition, find the other places that you plan to visit frequently, and note their location on your map.
Visit your campus gym often, no matter your gender. It is a way to stage of those extra calories, and a great place to socialize. Then your exercise time also becomes a social time too.
Eat breakfast when you have a test. You can even eat light; try some fruit or yogurt. Hunger can be a huge distraction during a test. By eating at least a small meal, you will be better able to focus on the test and recall all of the information that you studied.
Take the time to become acquainted with each of your instructors. Be sure that you know where their offices are and how you can easily get a hold of them. It’s a good idea to be on a professor’s good side just in case you’re having trouble with certain things, they will understand.
Take notes; don’t just sit back and listen in class. Taking notes helps you learn the information given. This will make it much easier to get the information down when it comes to study time. Even if you think you know the material, make it a habit to write these notes.
Check out all that your campus library has to offer. You will be amazed at all of the resources that are available to you. Ask the librarian for assistance in locating the needed study materials, but remember to whisper! Check out the bulletin board to see if there are textbooks for sale that you need.
Don’t cave to the pressures of a deadline by submitting the first copy of any written assignment. Make sure you have time to edit it. Write another version of it, rather than just proofreading it. Then proofread and perfect. This allows you to turn in your paper with confidence.
Give yourself an early start every day. By getting up early you can eat a healthy breakfast and spend some time at the gym before beginning your day.
Creating a sleep schedule can be very beneficial for your health in college. You probably have a lot to do, but it is important to get plenty of sleep. If you don’t get enough sleep, then focusing on classes will be difficult.
Stay at a school for a whole year before deciding to quit. Many college students feel homesick, awkward or like this whole thing was a mistake when they first get to college because it is an entirely different environment than they’re used to. After a full year, you can reassess your position. You may find that you still would prefer to transfer, but at least you didn’t dive in headfirst and make a foolish decision on a whim.
